Rediscover Africa 2025 was officially launched in Accra, Ghana on Wednesday, 9th, 2025 at the W.E.B. DuBois Center
The historic W.E.B. DuBois Centre in Accra was filled with energy, color, and pride as it hosted the official media launch of the Rediscover Africa Initiative, a bold new movement by the Rediscover Africa Organization dedicated to bridging the gap between the African continent and the global diaspora. With the 2025 theme centered on unity, legacy, and return, the initiative represents a continent-wide invitation for Africans in the diaspora to rediscover their roots and contribute meaningfully to Africa’s development and cultural celebration.
Anita Barakat, CEO and founder of Rediscover Africa, emphasized the vision: "We created this initiative because many in the diaspora—especially second and third generations—are yearning to reconnect. Rediscover Africa isn’t just a series of events. It’s a movement to return, rebuild, and reignite our identity as Africans around the world."Â
The launch was attended by ambassadors from several African embassies in Ghana, including Liberia, Mali, Angola, and Guinea-Conakry, all of whom gave powerful remarks in support of the initiative, underscoring the importance of reconnecting Africa with its diaspora, and welcoming this initiative as a significant first step in opening their nations to deeper diaspora collaboration, travel, and cultural exchange.
Mr. Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD), Director of the Diaspora Affairs Office at the Office of the President of Ghana, delivered keynote remarks, highlighting the government’s commitment to supporting diaspora engagement: "Our office exists to strengthen ties between the diaspora and the Presidency. This initiative is perfectly aligned with that mission—it goes beyond tourism and taps into long-term partnerships, identity, and belonging." Also in attendance was H.E. Rev. Dr. Lilian Sally Addo, Global President of the International Youth Network for United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250 (IYNUNSCR2250). In her remarks, she praised the initiative for actively involving young Africans in global peacebuilding, culture, and leadership. The event also featured a vibrant cultural showcase, with traditional drumming and dance that reflected the heartbeat of African heritage and gave guests a powerful reminder of the richness of the continent’s identity.
